Our Story

MFRS was founded in 2005 out of the aspirations of parents from numerous ethnocultural communities that came together to discuss the unique challenges of parents and their children who walk in two cultures. The parents identified the need for inclusion into their community within Canada.

“It has made adjusting to living in a new country easier, especially because we have no family here. We love the new friends we have made in the community; it feels like home.” - MFRS Program Participant

Our Journey

MFRS started in 2005 with a parent-child program of 30 participants. Over nineteen years, with the support of funders such as the City of Edmonton Family and Community Support Services; Edmonton Community Foundation; Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada; and Edmonton Community Adult Learning Association, we have grown to provide individual and group support to around 25,000 immigrant and refugee families each year through a range of programs.
